EC seizes unaccounted cash, liquor & other items worth Rs 540 crore as on March 25, 2019

Newdelhi:26/3/19:The Election Commission has seized unaccounted cash, illicit liquor, drugs, gold and freebies worth around 540 crore rupees since the model code of conduct came into effect.

Tamil Nadu is on top of the list with total seizures worth over 107 crore rupees, followed by Uttar Pradesh with over 104 crore rupees and Andhra Pradesh with over 103 crore rupees.

In a statement, the commission said, it has seized over 143 crore rupees cash from all over the country.

It has also seized precious metals worth 162 crore rupees, drugs and narcotics worth 131 crore rupees, liquor worth over 89 crore rupees and freebies worth 12 crore rupees.
