New Delhi, 05 December 2018. Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 languages today. Seven books of poetry, Six of novel, Six of short stories, Three of literary criticism and Two of essays have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2018
The Awards were recommended by distinguished Jury members representing 24 Indian languages and approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met today under the Chairmanship of Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar, President, Sahitya Akademi.Those who have won the Awards for their collection of poetry include Sri Sananta Tanti (Assamese), Sri Paresh Narendra Kamat (Konkani), Sri S. Ramesan Nair (Malayalam), Dr. Mohanjit (Punjabi), Dr. Rajesh Kumar Vyas (Rajasthani), Dr. Rama Kant Shukla (Sanskrit) and Sri Khiman U. Mulani (Sindhi).Sri Inderjeet Kesar (Dogri), Sri Anees Salim (English), Ms. Chitra Mudgal (Hindi), Sri Shyam Besra (Santali), Sri S. Ramakrishnan (Tamil) and Sri Rahman Abbas (Urdu) are awarded for their novels.
Those who have won the Awards for short stories include Sri Sanjib Chattopadhyay (Bengali), Sri Rituraj Basumatary (Bodo), Sri Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq (Kashmiri), Prof. Bina Thakur (Maithili), Sri Budhichandra Heisnamba (Manipuri) and Sri Lok Nath Upadhyay Chapagain (Nepali).Sri K.G. Nagarajappa (Kannada), Sri Ma. Suo Patil (Marathi) and Prof. Dasarathi Das (Odia) have won for their works on literary criticism. Prof. Sharifa Vijliwala (Gujarati) and Dr. Kolakaluri Enoch (Telugu) has been awarded for their essays.The books were selected on the basis of recommendations made by a Jury of three members in the concerned languages in accordance with the procedure laid down for the purpose. According to the procedure, the Executive Board declared the Awards on the basis of unanimous selections made by the Jurors or selection made on the basis of majority vote. The Awards relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award (i.e. between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2016).The Award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and a cheque of Rs. 1,00,000/- will be presented to the authors of these books at a special function to be held on 29 January 2019 at New Delhi during the Festival of Letters organized by Sahitya Akademi.
