Cattle smuggling is rampant in Odisha :Maneka Gandhi

Cuttack:25/9/18: Union Minister for Women and Children Development Maneka Gandhi addressed a conference at National Law University Odisha (NLUO) here today afternoon.

The 2-day conference is organized by by Friends Beyond Species – Society for the Advancement of Animal Welfare in collaboration with Humane Society International India (HSI India) with an aim to promote discussion on the theme ‘Wildlife Conservation and Sustainability.’

The broad focus points in the conference are: 1: Need for Modernization of State Enabled Machinery for Wildlife Conservation 2: Capacity Building for Conservation and Management 3: Ideological Conflict in Wildlife Conservation 4: State Action for Balancing Development and Wildlife Conservation: International Impact

Maneka Gandhi was the chief guest as well as keynote speaker on the occasion. Many dignitaries, academicians, students and scholars from all across the country participated in the conference.

In her media interaction, she said, “Cattle smuggling is rampant in Odisha and the money that is obtained from these activities sponsor terrorist activities across the nation. It is a threat to the country.”

Speaking on the issue of carcinogenic Formalin that was found in fishes few months back, she said, “I understand that it is a preservative but using it in such huge amounts is dangerous and criminal.”

After her address, Maneka Gandhi interacted with the students and discussed on various issues regarding the conservation and management of wildlife conservation.

The conference is a first of its kind in the State with participation of over 100 members from all over the country.
