Rayagada collector received the National Award for effective implementation of MGNREGS

Rayagada:11/9/18: Rayagada collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar on Tuesday received the National Award for effective implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes (MGNREGS) for the year 2016-17 from the Ministry of Rural Development.

Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar presented the award to the collector at a special function in New Delhi. A total of 228 awards were presented under different categories to states, districts, blocks, organisations and Individuals on the occasion.

According to sources, the Ministry of Rural Development organize the National Awards Function to recognise the outstanding works carried out by states, districts, blocks, organizations and individuals in implementation of various programmes of the Ministry and to instill healthy competition among them for better implementation and performance in future.

The Ministry of Rural Development implements various flagship programmes –  Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes (MGNREGS) to provide wage employment and asset creation,  Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) for rural housing, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for rural roads, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) for rural livelihoods, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU GKY) for skill development of rural youth and National Rurban Mission (NRuM) – all aimed at poverty alleviation.
