Director General of Policeordered crime branch probe into the alleged custodial death of a 25-year-old man in Mahakalpada police station

Bhubaneswar:30/8/418: The Director General of Police today ordered crime branch probe into the alleged custodial death of a 25-year-old man in Mahakalpada police station of Kendrapara district.

Body of Abinash Paitala was found hanging on the staircase railings of one Haladhar Mallick’s house in close vicinity of local police station on August 26 last. Paitala had earlier been taken into custody by police on August 25 on the suspicion of his involvement in a mobile theft case.

The mysterious death of the death had triggered law and order situation in Mahakalpada police station area prompting the higher-ups to place the Inspector Shyamaghana Behera under suspension.

The crime branch probe will be headed by an officer of DSP rank, a release from the State police headquarters said.

Paitala was innocent and falsely implicated in the case. The police subjected him to third-degree treatment in custody. Unable to bear with barbaric torture, he died in custody. Later the errant policemen took away the body to a nearby house and hung it to give it look of suicidal death, locals had earlier alleged.
