Lakhs of devotees thronged the holy city of Puri, to have a glimpse of Sunabesa

Puri:23/7/18: Lakhs of devotees thronged the holy city of Puri, to have a glimpse of Sunabesa of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra on Monday evening.

Among the 32 Besas (forms) of the Holy Trinity, devotees anxiously look forward to the Suna Besa as it is done when the Holy Trinity is in the opulent chariots. The pilgrims witness the Lords adorned in glittering gold on the bright fortnight of Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi Tithi.

The ornaments include – golden crown, golden peacock feather, golden necklace and silver conch. Around 138 types of ornaments made of solid gold have been beautifully decorated on the idols of the three deities.

Other ornaments included: giant limbs- feet, hands, insignias and weapons like mace, lotus, wheel and conch and huge tiaras besides number of special necklaces and garlands. The deities also put on big kundalas in their ears besides chest guards all made of gold.

The special darshan of the Lords will continue till late night. This is also known as Bada Tadhau Besha which takes place a day after the completion of the Lords’ annual sojourn.
