Smriti Zubin Irani emphasised for popularization of natural dyed products of Odisha Weavers

Bhubaneswar:26/6/18; Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani emphasised for popularization of natural dyed products during her visit on Tuesday to Weavers’ Service Centre, Bhubaneswar. Visibly impressed with the motifs/ designs developed by this centre, especially on Kotpad verieties, Bomkai motif, Dangaria motif and some ikat motifs, she said giving impetus to natural dyed products is the need of the hour.
Irani visited Weaving workshop, Processing workshop, Design Section and fabric library where the GI product samples are displayed and interacted with the weavers/artisans.


The principal activities of Weavers Service Centre here are product development with suitable inter-action among weaving, designing and processing expertise to evolve more marketable products, improving weaving technique and appliances, improvement of processing technique, training of weavers involving dissemination of improved weaving techniques and design through in-house and field training. Had an engaging conversation with Padma Shri Shilp Guru Sudarshan Sahoo ji on different stones used for sculpting during an impromptu visit to Sudarshan Arts & Crafts village established by him. He was appreciative of various handicrafts initiatives undertaken by Government of India
