Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister about Odisha’s long standing demand for accordance of Special Category Status

Bhubaneswar:19/6/18:In view of recent NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modihighlighting 3 key concerns of Odisha. He has drawn attention to Odisha’s genuine and long standing demand for accordance of Special Category Status. He has a suggested that National Health Protection Scheme(NHPS) to move towards universal coverage instead of basing it on SECC data which currently leaves out about 40 lakh needy people from its ambit.

Through his letter, he has brought the focus on the specific requirements of agriculture sector needing assistance of centre. He has called for implementing Swaminathan Committee recommendations in right earnest for the betterment of the sector as well as for the welfare of farmers.

He has suggests for a National Policy on Farm loan waiver and assured support of Odisha to such a policy. He has also expressed the need to factor in realistic input costs while making MSP to 1.5 times of the present.
