Odisha CM Urges PM To inclusion of additional 34.44 lakh beneficiaries under National Food Security Act

Bhubaneswar:24/5/18;Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi seeking inclusion of additional 34.44 lakh beneficiaries under National Food Security Act by to ensure coverage of all eligible persons in the state. Key issues highlighted:

  • Under National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, Odisha given a target of 3.26 crore beneficiaries amounting to 78% of 2011 Census population of 4.19 crore
    • Odisha has achieved the NFSA target and all beneficiaries being provided rations regularly
    • Odisha population in 2018 has grown by 10.22% as compared to 2011, making the total population into 4.62 crore.
    • Coverage for 2018 state population under NFSA as per increased population and provisions of the Act amounts to 3.60 crore beneficiaries

He proposed implementation of a mechanism for modification of targets on regular intervals to increase coverage of beneficiaries in accordance with increasing population.
