Bhubaneswar:11/4/18Industries Department regarding its inability to partner for the Conclave in view of prior engagements during the proposed dates of the Conclave.
The response of CII is particularly disappointing keeping in view the fact that in 2015 Odisha Government designated CII as the Industry Partner for all investment promotion activities.
The State Government is organising the biennial showpiece conclave for investments from November 11-15.
The Government of Odisha successfully organized Make in Odisha Conclave 2016 during November 30- December 02, 2016 in partnership with the CII. A total of 124 investment intents worth ; In what is a major setback to the Make in Odisha campaign, the partnership between Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Odisha Government broke down with CII, represented by Chairman, CII State Council, on April 4 informover INR 3.64 lakh crore were received during the investor meets leading upto the Conclave in 2016. Today, more than 60% of these proposals are at various stages of approval/implementation.
However, the decision of CII has sparked political controversy after the chairman and vice chairman of CII’s state council — Arun Mishra of Tata Steel’s Gopalpur project and Dhamra Port CEO Subrat Tripathy — tendered their resignation.
While Make in Odisha is a great programme for the development of the State, the CII stepped down from its partnership, following which he is no more interested to work as the chairman of the body, Mishra stated.
Similarly, talking to Pragativadi Tripathy said that as the decision is against the opportunity to contribute positively to the State, he tendered his resignation.
However, the ruling BJD claimed that the decision has been taken following pressure of Jagi Mangat Panda, chairperson of CII Eastern Region.
“The decision of CII is a betrayal to the youths of the State and the decision has been taken after Jagi Mangat Panda became the chairperson of CII Eastern Region,” said Sasmit Patra, BJD spokesperson.
“Everything between the State Government and CII was good till February. But the U-turn came only after Jagi Mangat Panda took over as the Eastern Region chairperson. She had a major role to play in the decision by the CII,” Patra claimed.
But, Jagi Mangat Panda has refuted the allegations.
