Startup ventures in 34 sectors have been recognized and brought under the fold of Odisha Start up Initiative

Bhubaneswar:1/11/17; 130 Startup ventures in 34 sectors have been recognized and brought under the fold of Odisha Start up Initiative.

This was known from the 2nd Startup Council Meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi in secretariat conference hall today wherein Additional Chief Secretary ME&ME Laxmi Narayan Gupta outlined the issues and presented the updates for discussion.

Reviewing the progress made so far, Chief Secretary Padhi directed to undertake more focused and outcome oriented activities for promotion of innovative entrepreneurship in the State.

Chairman Odisha skill Development Authority Subroto Bagchi suggested having more engagement with sponsoring and evaluating institutions for scouting increasing number of innovations.

The meeting decided to provide all support for flourishing of a world class state-of-art Center of Excellence in the Research & Entrepreneurship Park of IIT, Bhubaneswar. It would be a center of Virtual & Augmented Reality for Immersive Visualization. The Center was given a kick start by philanthropic contribution of Rs. 2.5 cr from Mrs. Susmita Bagchi and a matching grant of Rs. 2. 5 cr by Govt of Odisha. Omkar Rai , Director General of Software Technology Park of India ( STPI) , present in the meeting assured all support from STPI. Rai also appraised that STPI would provide a fund support of Rs. 2.5 cr for the Center. Participating in the deliberation, Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, Director IIT, Bhubaneswar said that the center would have a world class incubation center, laboratory, highly focused courses along with education & skill development programmes.

The council approved the product development and financial assistance in favour of 2 new start ups in the field of ‘automation in Industry maintenance’, and ‘alternative technology for repair of oil & gas pipe lines’.

Various activities for coming 6 months with estimated expenditure of Rs. 15 cr was discussed and approved in the  meeting. The meeting nominated XIMB, Centurial University, IITM, and KIIT for evaluating the startup proposals and sponsoring  those to the Council.

It may be pertinent to note here that earlier the Council had nominated 6 nodal agencies for evaluating and processing start up applications. These were IIT, Bhubaneswar, STPI, Bhubaneswar, NIT, Rourkela, IMMT, Bhubaneswar, OUAT, Bhubaneswar and NIFT, Bhubaneswar.

Chairman Odisha Skill Development Authority Subroto Bagchi, Special Secretary IT Ashok Kumar Meena, Director IIT Bhubaneswar, Prof Raja Kumar, DG STPI, Bhubaneswar Omkar Rai along with other expert members participated in the discussions.
