Berhampur Police claimed to have cracked BJD Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan murder

Berhampur: 22/9/17:Police today claimed to have cracked the September 16 coldblooded murder of BJD Councillor murder in Ganjam district with the arrest of four assailants.

Special squads constituted for the purpose nabbed four of killers from Bhubaneswar city while search is on to apprehend four others involved in the gruesome murder.  

The assailants had dragged Laxmidutta Pradhan (35), councillor of ward no. 6 of Chattrapur Notified Area Council, out of his house in and attacked him with sharp weapons on September 16. Pradhan succumbed to injuries later. The murder had triggered statewide uproar. The slain councillor was incidentally an accused in the murder case of Sakuru Behera, a CPI supporter, at Chhatrapur on July 23, 2014. BJD leader’s younger brother Debadutta had also suffered injuries when he tried to stop the attackers.

The arrest was made on the basis of CCTV footage. The entire sequence of murder had been capture on the CCTV which had been installed by the slain civic body member in front of his residence, said Ashis Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Ganjam.

The arrested assailants- Pravat Kumar Nayak (24), Surjaya Kumar Nayak (30), Prem Kumar Nayak (22),  Jiten Kumar Nayak (20) all from Ganjam district- are being brought under remand for further interrogation, he said.

A scooty moped, two Bajaj Pulser bikes and a Hundai car, which were used by the criminals to escape from the crime spot, have been seized. Four other criminals who played active role in authoring the crime are absconding. They will be arrested shortly, he said.
