Odisha BJP unit said ‘ruling BJD is adhering to double standard

Bhubaneswar:19/9/174;Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said ‘ruling BJD is adhering to double standard as it is projecting the party legislature Pravat Ranjan Biswal’s arrest in chit fund case as politically engineered’.

Real face of BJD has again been exposed with the arrest of MLA Biswal. The party and its supremo has perfected the art of shielding the corrupt. It’s ridiculous that Biswal’s arrest is being given a political colour, BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit told reporters here today.

CBI had earlier arrested BJD MP Ramchandra Hansda and MLA Pravat Tripathy on chit fund link. The chief minister had then talked of transparency and honesty of governance and had expelled both the tainted leaders, he said.

Surprisingly the party’s stand following Biswal’s arrest is strikingly different this time. It’s ironic to say that BJD is speaking in favour of a corrupt MLA by pointing accusing fingers at centre and CBI, he said.

CBI found prima-facie and arrested Biswal. BJD said the arrest of Biswal was BJP president Amit Shah’s game plan. It’s perhaps the joke of the year, he said.

MLA Biswal’s arrest by CBI in chit fund case had earlier elicited sharp reaction from Odisha’s ruling party which accused the Centre of misusing investigative agencies.

“Biswal’s arrest appeared to be politically motivated. It could be a game plan of the BJP as its President Amit Shah had indicated a move on this line during his recent visit to the state. Why CBI did not arrest Biswal earlier though he was interrogated several times in the past?” BJD spokesman and Rajya Sabha MP P K Deb told reporters.

Deb, considered to be a confidante of Patnaik, alleged that Biswal’s arrest was made under the pressure of the BJP which is heading the government at the Centre.
