Baripada:6/9/17: Odisha got its fifth state-run medical college and hospital with the inauguration of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital (PRMMCH) here in Mayurbhanj district today by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“This college is another stepping stone towards our resolve to ensure inclusive, equitable and sustainable development in the state,” said Naveen dedicating the medical college.
With the establishment of this college, a long awaited dream and aspiration of the people of Mayurbhanj has become a reality today, he added.
The medical college is a great tribute to many great leaders of the state, including Maharaj of Mayurbhanj Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo and late Biju Babu, who believed in multi disciplinary approach for tackling health and development problems of the tribal areas, he further added.
My government is working earnestly towards promoting health of the people of the state through strengthening of medical education and tertiary care by bringing it closer to community in remote parts of the state, he concluded.
The medical college is expected to play a big role in providing quality health services to the people of north Odisha and neighbouring states of Jharkhand and West Bengal.
According to sources, all the infrastructure facilities like class rooms, laboratories, hostels and office rooms have been completed and classes of the first batch of MBBS students for 2017-18 session is also scheduled to start from today.
Out of the total 100 seats at the PRMMCH, 67 male and 33 female students have already taken admission in MBBS stream.
The total number of seats in all state-run medical colleges rose to 850 in Odisha.
Worth mentioning, the CM had inaugurated Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital in Koraput on September 4.
