Bhubaneswar:26/7/17; If everything goes the right way, the first flights from under-construction Jharsuguda airstrip will takeoff from September 1.
Chief Secretary Adiyta Prasad Padhy who reviewed the UDAN scheme for regional air connectivity in the State directed authorities concerned to complete the 1st Phase works in Jharsuguda airstrip and make it ready for flight by 1st September, 2017. He also further directed to expedite the preparatory works in other air strips for making them flight fit.
According to officials, 5 airstrips sin Odisha have been selected for inclusion in UDAN scheme. From among these, Biju Pattanaik International Air Port, Bhubaneswar will work as mentor airport. The other 4 airstrips are located at Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Utkela ( Kalahandi) and Jeypore ( Koraput). A State Level Monitoring-cum-Coordination Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary involving Home, Police, AAI, representatives from regional connectivity airlines, and oil companies for ensuring effective implementation of the scheme. The 1st meeting of the Committee was held today under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary. It may be pertinent here to mention that a MOU on RCS-UDAN was signed among Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt of India, Govt of Odisha and Airports Authority of India in March, 2017.
