First flood waters of Mahanadi River from Hirakud Dam have been released

Sambalpur: 23/7/17;This season’s first flood waters of Mahanadi River from Hirakud Dam have been released today through Gate no-7.

Hirakud’s first flood water is being released after opening of a sluice gate, said Harmohan Pradhan, Chief Engineer of the Dam, adding that one more gate will also be opened shortly for maintain the dam’s water level.

“It depends on the quantity of rain in upper and lower catchment areas of the river to decide how much water has to be released on daily basis”, he added.
