A major Odia actress in the 1960s, Smt. Jharana Das enjoyed huge popularity for her memorable roles in classic films like Amada Bata, Abhinetri and Malajanha. Roles made memorable by skilled character portrayal as well as deeply emotive performances. Her foundation as a talented child artiste with All India Radio Cuttack helped shape her career as an outstanding actress. Fascinated by Odissi dance, she had the benefit of having learnt this classical dance form under the tutelage of renowned Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Her valuable contribution to numerous radio plays earned AIR Cuttack considerable popularity, and her work in TV programmes earned her the post of Asst. Station Director of Doordarshan, Cuttack. She has also directed a biographical documentary film on noted Odia politician, Sri Harekrushna Mahatab. Recipient of the prestigious Jayadev Award among others.
