Women and Child Development Minister look into the action yet to be taken in the multi-crore dal scam

Bhubaneswar:31/5/17: Incumbent Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal on Wednesday told media that he would personally look into the action yet to be taken in the multi-crore dal (pulses) scam that underwent a Vigilance probe, the then minister concerned had to resign and action was also initiated against three IAS officers (District Collectors) for their alleged involvement.

In his media reactions, the W&CD Minister said, “Vigilance was enquiring into it. I’ll delve into the stage of it. If any action kept on hold by our department, it will be expedited.”

Notably, the issue had rocked the Odisha Assembly then and on February 5, 2011 its first victim was Odisha’s the then W&CD Minister Pramila Mallick and action was also initiated against three IAS officers over purchase of dal for the mid-day meal (MDM) scheme and Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP).

Coincidentally, Samal had been given then the charge as W&CD Minister by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik following his predecessor Mallick’s resignation.
