Puri district administration has identified 34 buildings as dangerous and unsafe.

Puri :25/5/17; Ahead of annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Puri district administration has identified 34 buildings as dangerous and unsafe.

Notices for demolition of such unsafe structures have been served to the respective building owners. These buildings which include 16 mutts, two lodging houses besides a school are jeopardising human safety. So the administration has decided to raze these unsafe structures to ground while adhering to legal formalities, said Additional District Magistrate, Madhusudan Das.

Earlier the public works department engineers had inspected the buildings and had conducted safety audit of old structures in Puri Township. The panel of engineers had detected 34 buildings as unsafe and had suggested for the expeditious demolition.

Keeping in view large congregation of devotees during the annual rath yatra festival, demolition of these unsafe structures had become imperative to avert possible building collapse tragedy, he said.
