Bhubaneswar:24/4/17: Dolly Parekh, a Bhubaneswar-based fashion designer has bagged the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Awards 2017 for promoting ‘Pattachitra’ (scroll painting), through her designs.
Parekh, a Gujarati, is known for her traditional yet contemporary designs of clothes. She has been in the fashion industry for the last 10 years.
She received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Awards 2017 on Friday night in Mumbai where Bollywood actresses Hema Malini, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar and Zeenat Aman were also awarded.
Parekh is the winner of “Women of the Future Award 2016” and “Woman Appreciation Award 2017”.
She has carved a place in fashion industry with her new idea, new energies and new directions and her creations are worn by Bollywood actress Divya Dutta and many others.
Speaking to OMMCOM NEWS, Parekh said: “As I am staying in Odisha for the last ten years, so I thought to promote the state’s art and culture through my designs.”
Parekh has participated in a number of fashion shows in Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and Vadodara and showcased her collections at the Bhubaneshwar Style Week, 2016 where activist Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi was a showstopper.
Parekh was also a winner of “Make in India Award” for contributing to PM Modi’s Make In India campaign.
Dadasaheb Phalke Award is given to a film personality for his or her outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced in 1969 by the India Government to recognise the contribution of film personalities towards the development of Indian Cinema. The first recipient of this award was Devika Rani.
Now it is also being awarded to personalities of various categories like fashion design, acting, playback singing and make-up.
