Cuttack: Protesting the proposed Advocate Bill (amendment) 2017, the state Bar Council has called for an All Odisha cease work stir on April 21. Earlier, the lawyers had observed strike on March 31 and April 3 against the amendment.The proposed amendment in the bill bars advocates from holding agitation and makes them liable to compensate litigants if they go on strike. The state advocates allege that these suggestions go against the welfare of advocates and hence the lawyers in Odisha protested the amendments.
Since the suggestions by BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra were not accepted by Law Commission, lawyers across India have been protesting the bill.On April 21, the Bar associations of various districts will submit memorandum to collectors. A significant meeting will also be held on April 22 with members of various Bar Councils, High Court Bar Association, Supreme Court Bar Association to attend.
