OdishaGovernment is planning to obtain GI registration for the age-old palm-leaf etching craft.

Bhubaneswar:11/4/17: The State Government is planning to obtain Geographical Indication (GI) registration for the age-old palm-leaf etching craft. GI tag for the dying art form will help in reviving the traditional craft and improving in the economic standards of the artists.

Puri Creative Handicrafts’ Co-operative Society Limited, an organization dealing with handicrafts, along with the development commissioner (Handicrafts) under the Union Ministry of textiles, has started working on the preparedness for application of the GI tag. The Co-operative society organized a workshop here on Monday to discuss the future action plan and documentation of the craft and conduct a survey of its artisans.
