ROURKELA: ONT Bureaue(6/1/17) As a part of its preventive measure against bird flu, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) carried out a disinfection drive with spraying of formalin solution at the infected alert zone of Indira Gandhi (IG) Park here on Thursday.
Accordingly, anti-viral medicine was sprayed inside the pelican duck enclosure and other avian enclosures at the park. The Rapid Response Team (RRT) has collected cloacal swabs from 11 different species of the zoo birds for screening.
Disinfection activities were also carried out RSP’s CISF campus, which is also under alert zone, near Bisra Square besides some other areas where crow deaths were reported. RSP sources said carcasses of crows are being scientifically disposed of, while health check-up of all workers at IG Park was conducted. Training on protective measures against the avian influenza was also imparted.
Roadside vendors of poultry fowls at Sectors 8, 14, 18 and 19 here have also been counselled on protective measures and safe disposal of poultry wastes. In due course, other areas of the captive township of RSP would be covered. Besides, a control room with contact numbers 9937975434 / 9437172268 of two Odisha Government Veterinary doctors have been made operational, an RSP statement said.
