Complete special summary revision of electoral roll by Jan 1: EC tells CEOs

Bhubaneswar:  To ensure error-free electoral roll of the current year, the Election Commission (EC) of India has directed chief electoral officers (CEOs) of all states to complete the special summary revision programme by January 1, 2017, so that the final draft electoral of the year 2017 will be published on January 5.

Acting on the EC directive, CEO, Odisha, DN Gupta has already published the draft electoral rolls on September 15. The process of accepting and filling of claims and objections has been started right from the day of publication of the draft roll and it will continue till October 14.

To facilitate the process, special campaign dates with booth level agents as appointed by the political parties has been decided as September 18 and October 9 in which claims and objections of the voters will be received by the booth level officers. Decisions to the claims and objections will be made by November 16 and thereafter final electoral rolls will be published on January 5.

Gupta has appealed all the citizens to take the advantages of any rectification. Apart from this, voters can contact for further query to the sub collector office who has been designated as Electoral Registration Officer, he added.
